The Registrar of Contractors runs a public contractor search where anyone can read what is published for a license number: the status in the Registrar's own words, and the details the record carries.\n\nReading it costs nothing and needs no account. A reading describes the moment it was made; the record itself can change after any reading, which is why the time of a reading is part of what it says.",

        "body": "The record is what the State itself keeps about a license: the agency that issued it maintains it, updates it, and publishes it. It is not a review, not a rating, and not anyone's opinion of the work. It is what Arizona itself says about the license, at the moment you read it.\n\nThe public search answers by license number. What comes back is the status the Registrar publishes and the details the record carries, in the Registrar's own words."

        "body": "A reading is one look at a changing record, and it belongs to its moment. A license that reads one way today can read another way tomorrow, because the agency updates the record as things happen to the license. That is why an honest reading always carries its time: the time is part of the fact.\n\nThe same is true in the other direction. A reading from last month says what the record said last month, and nothing more. When something depends on the record, the reading that matters is a fresh one."
